I am interested in understanding and controlling dynamics of molecules when they couple to cavity photons.

When a molecule interacts strongly with confined light the two can couple, much like two pendulums connected by a spring. The coupled system alters the original molecular properties. A recent development is strongly coupling molecular vibrations to cavity photons, and there are many reports of modified chemical reactivity and bulk molecular changes in these systems. The microscopic origins of these macroscopic material modifications are still a mystery.

Our research seeks solutions to this problem using ultrafast mid-infrared spectroscopy to follow the time evolution of these systems.
